The Kingdom
of Westbernhaven is an independent, sovereign micronation in North America, which seceded peacefully from the United States
in 2002 (but we're not sure the United States noticed). Our Kingdom consists of several territories and provinces across the
United States. While most of our active citizens live in other parts of the United States and Canada, Europe, South America,
Asia, and Africa.
The Kingdom
of Westbernhaven is a constitutional monarchy, headed by a non-political King. We do invite all persons worldwide to become citizens of The Kingdom of Westbernhaven. To become a citizen
is free and you will have dual citizenship. Unlike some micronations, the Kingdom of Westbernhaven has actual land, which
it deems as provinces as part of the Royal Kingdom. We continue to acquire new territory over time, thus making the Royal
Kingdom larger in size. As we grow so does our population. We are a peaceful micronation that exists in harmony and understanding.
We have been a sovereign nation known almost to ourselves until recently. On August 1st 2002,
our Independence Day, our government decided to go world wide with the launching of our web site. We have in recent
years watched many new nations emerge, micro and macro nations, for example the peaceful break up of Czechoslovaka in
1993 into the Independent Czech and Slovak republics. Or for some more examples, Bosnia was once one of six federal
units in the (Former) Republic of Yugoslavia and is now an independent country, Kosovo is in a transitional
period, and we all remember when Russia broke up and even changed it's flag. So we have decided now is the time
to take a more proactive approach to relations with other micronations. We have declared our kingdom a nation.
Yes, there is a difference in a country and a nation. For example,
a country is a defined political place like, Germany, France the U.S. or The Bahamas. A nation is a group of humans
who belong to the same social, cultural identity, or ethnic origin. In Oklahoma the state government and the U.S. federal
government recognize several Indian tribes as a nation.
These indian nations have their own laws, customs, and even their own
police and judicial system. Many operate casinos as a source of industry and income for the nation and it is all legal. Simply
put a nation is not a state but has it's own government and laws.
The Kingdom of Westbernhaven is in its territory a very small yet sovereign state, claiming and entitled
to all the rights of a sovereign State, which rights under International Law include participation in international organizations,
and the maintenance of diplomatic relations with other sovereign states. The Kingdom of Westbernhaven meets the criteria set
forth in Article 1 of the 1933 Montevideo Convention on Rights and Duties of States. We have a sovereign government exercising
dominion of its well-defined territories, and with permanent residents.
